Having finished his probation, Hodaka graduates from high school and returns to Tokyo.

He meets Suga, who has expanded his business. After Suga encourages him to find Hina, Hodaka finds her praying on a street overlooking the drowned city. They both reunite with Hodaka promising her that they will be fine from now on. On August 2,Makoto Shinkai announced that he was making a new feature film that would be released the following year.

Shinkai tweeted about his admiration for Shikao Sugaand that he "borrowed" the last name for the character Keisuke Suga.
